Overview

Prepare for university without being out of pocket, even if you don't meet the traditional prerequisites like ATAR.

RMIT UniReady is a fee‑free enabling course that helps you get into university if you do not qualify for direct entry or achieve the ATAR you needed.

Through subjects like maths, academic writing, and research, you'll develop key academic skills needed for university study, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication. You’ll also build confidence with digital tools, learn how to interpret and work with data, and strengthen your presentation techniques.

With on-campus learning at RMIT's City campus, you'll become familiar with university spaces, key services and support network, enabling you to integrate early into RMIT's student community and culture and empowering you to engage with university life.

Through supportive teaching and meaningful connections with peers and staff, RMIT UniReady more than just prepares you academically – you'll feel competent, motivated, and ready to succeed in higher education.

Why study the RMIT UniReady course?

Build skills for success

You'll develop essential skills like academic writing, numeracy, and critical thinking to succeed at university.

Increased support into uni

Students from underrepresented backgrounds will be provided a structured, guided entry into higher education.

Clear pathways to higher education

Upon successful completion, you're guaranteed entry into select associate degrees.

Tailor your path to success

This course offers 3 study plans. Each plan code is linked to a corresponding RMIT associate degree, so you can tailor your study to the discipline you're most interested in:

  • Plan code PR001FT – For students who intend to continue into the Associate Degree in Information Technology
  • Plan code PR001SCH – For students who intend to continue into the Associate Degree in Health Sciences
  • Plan code PR001BUS – For students who intend to continue into the Associate Degree in Business

Important:

You apply for, and are admitted to, a single plan only.

Your choice of plan determines the associate degree pathway you may be eligible for, provided you meet all entry and selection requirements at the time you apply.

Details

How you will learn

You'll engage in individual learning activities, assessments with feedback, and collaborative group tasks such as presentations. These will build the skills and knowledge you need for a successful transition into higher education study.

The course blends face-to-face delivery with online learning support to enable meaningful, flexible and inclusive learning experiences.

Materials and resources are provided through RMIT’s Learning Management System, Canvas.

How you'll be assessed

You'll engage in various assessment methods that involve performing tasks reflective of higher education study. These methods will test your knowledge, skills, and attitudes, giving you opportunities to showcase your developed capabilities and the achievement of learning outcomes in each area.

Each subject's assessments are tailored to its specific learning outcomes. These may include quizzes, essays or reports, oral presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory work, practical assignments, timed assessments, and reflective journals.

The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.

Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.

The world is constantly changing, and there are universal skills that can help you adapt to the evolving nature of work and global engagement.

As part of your study experience at RMIT, we provide 6 future-focused RMIT Capabilities:

  • Ethical Global Citizens
  • Connected
  • Adaptive
  • Digitally Adept
  • Expert
  • Critically Engaged.

RMIT Capabilities are built into your course as well as some of our extracurricular experiences. They inform the design and delivery of your learning activities and assessments, so by the time you graduate, you’ll be ready to apply these capabilities in your life and work.
