Minors at RMIT

Shape your studies to reflect your passions and priorities.

At RMIT, minors give you the flexibility to explore the things that excite you, beyond the core focus of your primary course.

They are a way to tailor your degree so it reflects your personal interests, opens up new opportunities or lets you dip your toe into a different area.

What is a minor and how are they chosen?

A minor is a set of 4 subjects in a specific study area, that sits alongside your major and core studies. They let you broaden or deepen your knowledge in a field, customising your degree to suit your personal path.

Minors are chosen as part of your elective options. Depending on your course, you can:

  • select one or more minors from a list associated with your degree
  • use them to build complementary skills (for example, adding a photography minor to your journalism studies)
  • pursue a passion outside your main discipline, while still earning credit toward your qualification.
