Double degrees

What is a double degree?

With a double degree, you can study two degrees and graduate with two qualifications, with just an additional year of study beyond the typical duration of a single degree.

Whether you're interested in bridging the gap between your passions or exploring multiple subject areas — a double degree can navigate you towards a unique and diverse career path. Upon graduating, you'll emerge with a combination of specialised skills and knowledge that'll set you apart to employers and with more options to work across different disciplines and industries.

Common questions about double degrees

Can I transfer into a double degree?

Students currently enrolled in studies at RMIT can change their studies by applying to enter into a double degree, upon meeting academic entry requirements. Upon entry, students can apply for credit for previous study towards the double degree. The amount of credit will be dependent on the relevance of the previous study and how much has been completed (this applies to internal and external transfers).

There are two intakes for which you can submit your application. You can check direct application dates to see when you can apply.

How long does a double degree usually take?

The duration of a double degree varies depending on the degrees involved. Typically, double degrees take four or five years to complete when studying on a full-time basis. Choosing a double degree allows you to gain two qualifications, in less time than if you were to study two degrees separately.

Are there pathways into double degrees?

There are currently no articulation agreements from vocational education to double degree. However, some double degrees list single degrees that are linked to them as a pathway in the 'Articulation and pathway' section of the relevant double degrees handbook.

What is the difference between a double degree and a double major?

A double degree involves studying two degrees at the same time, allowing you to graduate with two separate qualifications. For example, studying the Bachelor of Accounting/Bachelor of Laws allows you to gain expertise in two fields and gain separate qualifications for both.

Studying a double major involves studying two areas of specialisation within a single degree. For example, the Bachelor of Business allows you to choose up to two majors to undertake from 14 options.
