Palaniappan Nagarajan

I’m a visiting research candidate at the School of Science at RMIT University. I completed my MSc degree in Chemistry at Bharathidasan University (Tamil Nadu, India) and my MPhil-PhD integrated programme in functionalized carbon materials for coatings & energy storage applications at the Central University of Gujarat (India) in 2020.

During my PhD, I designed new functional carbon materials and conducted electrochemical studies in conjunction with my research supervisor Prof. Ivan Cole. I have academic & professional experience with functionalized carbon materials for coatings on metal surfaces to protect them from aggressive environments. In my spare time, I read the Thirukural and enjoy physical activity.

Prior work

  • 2021 - Present: Postdoctoral Research Associate, Aqueous Corrosion Lab, Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science Department, Prof. V.S. Raja, IIT Bombay (India). Project was on development of cathodes & anodes for sodium ion batteries.
  • 2016 - Present, Visiting Research Student, Rapid Discovery & Fabrication Team, Prof. Ivan Cole, School of Engineering, RMIT University. Project is on functionalized carbon materials for anticorrosion coating and energy storage applications.
  • 2008 - 2009: MPhil research project, Central Electrochemical Research Institute (Tamil Nadu, India). Project was on sorbitol converted into glucose by electrochemical methods, supervised by Dr. D. Vasudevan & Dr. Bosco Emmanuel.
