RMIT Equity Notebook Grant

For full-time certificate III, certificate IV, diploma and degree students; provides up to $1,000 to purchase a notebook computer.

This grant provides up to $1,000 to purchase a notebook computer.

To be eligible for this grant you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • be enrolling full-time in semester 1/flexi-enrolment between January to June in a certificate III, certificate IV, diploma or degree program at RMIT in 2024
  • commencing your program at RMIT in semester 1 2024/January to June 2024 (with no prior RMIT enrolment)*
  • be able to demonstrate financial disadvantage such as:
    • receiving a government tested low income benefit or having a Centrelink Health Care Card
  • be able to demonstrate circumstance/s which impact your ability to study such as:
    • having a long-term medical condition or disability 
    • experiencing personal/family/social difficulties
    • be from an interstate or rural/regional area and moving/moved to Melbourne to study at RMIT
    • have previously/are currently living in foster/kinship care or are a ward of the state
    • be from an under-represented background such as
      • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
      • were born overseas, are from a non-English background and recently migrated to Australia
      • current or former refugee
      • completed secondary school at a School Network Access Program school
  • not have previously completed a program at the same level or higher
  • not have previously received a notebook or funds for a notebook from RMIT

Postgraduate by coursework students are ineligible.

*Note: A very limited number of RMIT Equity Notebook Grants may be awarded to those who meet the above criteria but commenced earlier than semester 1/January 2024.

Depending on your circumstances, you will need to provide different types of evidence and material to support your scholarship application. Applications without supporting documents will not be considered.

RMIT’s Student Hardship Assistance Grant may be available to students whose computer device has expectantly broken. Grants may only be provided where you can demonstrate that one-off assistance will support your studies and that your current financial circumstances are not typical. Students are able to access Microsoft Office 365 via myDesktop (RMIT free software downloads for students).

The scholarship application process is highly competitive with a limited number of scholarships available. Unfortunately, not all eligible applicants will receive one.

Only successful candidates will be notified via email to their RMIT student account.
