The 100% online degree delivers a convenient online program without the requirement for on-campus attendance and commitments. All lecture material and content is delivered directly to you, wherever you are.

What you will study

Examine the foundational principles that underpin project management practice. You will develop your knowledge of project management techniques and how to scope, plan and manage a project. You will also analyse the legal framework that governs the practice of project management.

In addition, your exposure to introductory leadership concepts and principles will develop your ability to identify and manage project team dynamics.

The prime objective of this course is to build on and develop your understanding of best practice principles and practices of project management, then develop your capacity to apply these in any commercial, industrial or professional context.

The online Graduate Diploma in Project Management will arm you with the knowledge and expertise to successfully manage large-scale projects. You’ll learn to lead projects from concept to completion – on budget and on-time.

The program will introduce you to practical tools to mitigate risk, design strong projects and lead successful teams – confidently and based on proven strategies.

With an online Graduate Diploma in Project Management, you’ll gain exactly the same qualification as you would studying on-campus. The only difference is that the program has been designed specifically for online learning. When you complete your studies you have the option to move on to the on-campus Master of Project Management.

RMIT’s Graduate Diploma in Project Management is one of the longest-running programs of its kind in Australia, educating people in all facets of project management for over 20 years.

The 100% online, accelerated program means your learning – and graduation – is fast-tracked and focused. You can enrol in any one of our six, seven-week teaching periods each year.

You can view online resources and learning activities, access course materials via Canvas, collaborate with lecturers and fellow students, and access your student email account anywhere, anytime.

Our online learning platform is purpose-built and brings authenticity to your learning experience, available using your laptop, tablet or smartphone. Coursework is delivered in an engaging way and easy to follow.

You will also have access to discussion boards, online forums, electronic assignment submission, the library and business journals.

Assessment is ongoing throughout the teaching period and includes essays, reports, presentations, case studies, quizzes and research projects.

8 courses | 16 months intensive part-time
Each course is seven weeks in duration and requires a minimum of 15-20 hours a week study.

A critical part of delivering high-level coursework online is providing students with a consistent approach to assessment.

Students are assessed on how well each of their course learning outcomes is met, in alignment with the overall program learning outcomes.

Examples of common assessments may include group and individual tasks, such as:

Project management is a growing career. With an increase in the amount of project-based work, the Project Management Institute predicts global demand for project managers is set to increase in a range of sectors including IT, energy, healthcare, construction, finance, aerospace and defence.

There is also a range of international opportunities in this sector for graduates, with the U.S., Brazil, China, India, Germany and of course, Australia, all experiencing an increase in major projects and associated demands for project skills.

In addition, the Graduate Diploma in Project Management encompasses courses that make up our Graduate Certificate, so should you need to exit the program, you can still earn a postgraduate qualification.

Admissions

Successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification), or

Minimum of five years’ professional work experience in a related industry. Applicants with professional experience at a senior level that is less than five years may also be considered.

International students are required to provide current evidence of English language proficiency for admission to RMIT University (see below).

To study this course you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 6.5 (with no individual band below 6.0)
  • TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 79 (with minimum of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 58 (with no communication band less than 50)
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): minimum of 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

Our Graduate Diploma in Project Management encompasses courses that make up our Graduate Certificate, so should you need to exit the program early, you can still earn a postgraduate qualification.
