This course will provide a conceptual foundation of the key issues of human resource management (HRM), from which you may progress to more specific areas of interest in the HRM field. Specifically, it provides you with a solid theoretical, practical and holistic understanding of HRM strategies, processes and practices in contemporary organisations.

You’ll analyse the HR problems in the workplace and generate potential solutions, and also further develop research, conceptual, communication and interpersonal skills.

Our online learning platform is purpose-built and brings authenticity to your learning experience, available using your laptop, tablet or smartphone. Coursework is delivered in an engaging way and easy to follow.

Assessment is ongoing throughout the teaching period and includes essays, reports, presentations, case studies, quizzes and research projects.

But the fact is that the HR sector is under continual change as it responds to the business environment, and professionals need to keep on top of current learnings to stay ahead of the pack.

The great news is that with the right skills, you can work in a range of industry sectors where your skills in contemporary business and HR practice, operational leadership, problem-solving, cross-cultural awareness and persuasive communication are required for the strategic management of people in a global context.

Roles might include diversity management, occupational health and safety, training and development, industrial relations roles as well as HR practice.

The RMIT online Graduate Certificate of Human Resources is accredited by the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI). Eligible graduates can also enter the AHRI Practising Certification Program.

Entry requirements and admissions

An Australian bachelor degree or equivalent, or higher level qualification, in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.

If you do not meet the above entry requirement for the Graduate Certificate, you may be considered if you have five years of work experience.

International students are required to provide current evidence of English language proficiency for admission to RMIT University (see below).

To study this course you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 6.5 (with no individual band below 6.0)
  • TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 79 (with minimum of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 58 (with no communication band less than 50)
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): minimum of 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

Pathways

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, you may continue on to further study at masters level.

The Graduate Certificate is an entry pathway to the Master's degree for some students.

In addition to tuition fees, you will be charged an annual student services and amenities fee (SSAF) based on your enrolment load, which is used to maintain and enhance services and amenities that improve your experience as an RMIT student. Eligible local students can apply for an SA-HELP loan to defer payment of their SSAF.
