Tanyya speaks:
I really like working with patterns and finding patterns. And I have always been curious when I was a child. So, I think my degree that is Data Science is kind of related to that. Finding hidden patterns and unearthing some links in the data that I have just found out.
My brother's school, they had a tie up with RMIT. And then, he told me that RMIT sounds like a pretty good university. And then, when I looked at the reviews and I looked at the course structure here at RMIT and I found that, yeah, I could do all this and I'm pretty excited about this.
Moving from Delhi, India to Melbourne was a big challenge, because I did not have any family support here and I did not know anybody. It's just that a few of my friends had come here and I was like, okay, if they can do it, I can also do it. I can move to a whole different continent. So, making friends wasn't that difficult for me, because Melbourne has a pretty diverse culture and you meet people from different backgrounds every day. And they are quite open and friendly as well. So, the environment here is really warm and approachable.
I'm a foodie, I love exploring food. So, when I came to Melbourne-- I always had Indian food, but when I came here, I tried so many different cuisines. I tried Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish. And out of all of them, I love noodles. It is like my guilty pleasure and I take a big bowl of noodles and everything and I just dig in.
Last year, we participated in a datathon The competition was about Melbourne public transport data. And the winner of the competition gets to do an internship in ANZ Bank. So, me and my-- a few of my classmates, we grouped up for the competition and we actually had developed an app. So, you put in your journey, your time, and then it calculates whether you should take a car or public transport for your specific journey. And that is how I got an internship from ANZ.
What's next for me is getting a job as a data scientist and probably settling in Melbourne for a few years, yeah.
