About
Scott Douglas is an educator, aspiring researcher, and industry leader specialising in the circular economy, bioeconomy, sustainability, and social innovation. He serves as Chief Executive Officer of Green Lab Futures, where he leads applied research, industry partnerships, and the development of practical solutions that accelerate Australia's transition towards regenerative and circular economic systems.
Alongside his industry leadership, Scott teaches entrepreneurship, sustainability, and innovation at RMIT University, bringing contemporary industry practice into the classroom through project-based learning and real-world engagement. His teaching philosophy centres on preparing students to solve complex environmental, social, and economic challenges through systems thinking, evidence-based decision-making, and collaborative innovation.
His work bridges academia and industry through collaborative research, curriculum development, regional innovation initiatives, and the commercialisation of emerging clean economy technologies, creating practical pathways for organisations to implement sustainable and regenerative practices.
Teaching interests
My teaching philosophy is founded on the belief that students learn best when they can connect theory with authentic, real-world practice. I strive to create engaging, inclusive, and industry-connected learning experiences that develop critical thinking, collaboration, and the confidence to solve complex social, environmental, and business challenges.
I adopt a student-centred approach that encourages inquiry, reflection, and evidence-based decision-making. Through project-based learning, industry case studies, and authentic assessment, I support students to apply academic knowledge to practical challenges while developing the professional capabilities required in today's workforce.
Drawing on my experience across higher education, industry, and applied research, I integrate contemporary examples from entrepreneurship, sustainability, and the circular economy to demonstrate the relevance of classroom learning. I view feedback as an essential part of learning and aim to provide constructive guidance that supports students' growth, confidence, and continuous improvement.
I am committed to reflective teaching practice and continually refine my teaching through student feedback, scholarly engagement, and collaboration with industry. My goal is to prepare graduates who are adaptable, ethical, and equipped with the knowledge, skills, and systems thinking required to contribute positively to a more sustainable and innovative future.
Research interests
Scott's research focuses on identifying and overcoming barriers to circular economy adoption within supply chains. His current research, Mapping Barrier Visibility in Circular Economy Supply Chain Adoption: A Multiple Case Study Investigation, has been presented at ANZAM and underpins ongoing scholarly publications examining organisational transition towards circular business models.
