Gerarda Richards

Dr Gerarda Richards is an Associate Professor (Education), researcher, and academic leader with extensive experience in Initial Teacher Education (ITE), professional experience, curriculum innovation, and teacher workforce development. She has held leadership roles including Academic Director of Professional Experience, Program Director, and Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA) Lead, overseeing accredited early childhood, primary, and secondary teacher education programs and supporting the preparation of future educators across diverse learning contexts. 

Her teaching philosophy is grounded in student-centred, evidence-informed practice that connects theory, research, and authentic professional experience. Gerarda has led significant curriculum reform initiatives aligned with national teacher education requirements, such as the implementation of innovative approaches including virtual reality simulations and strengthened alignment of Indigenous pedagogies across teacher education programs.  

Recognised for her commitment to teaching excellence and mentorship, Gerarda works collaboratively with academic colleagues and professional partners to enhance student learning, and educational quality. Her research and teaching interests span early childhood education, STEM engagement, family learning, professional experience, teacher education reform, and educational equity. Through her leadership, scholarship, and commitment to continuous improvement, she seeks to create meaningful learning experiences that empower future teachers to make a positive impact in their communities.
