About

Dr Tarek Rana is an Associate Professor of Accounting in the School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. He earned my PhD in Management Accounting at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia, MBA from University of Saskatchewan (Canada), and B.Com. and M. Com. in Accounting from the University of Dhaka (Bangladesh).

Prior to becoming an academic, I was a senior manager and managing partner of professional accounting firms in Australia. He has considerable professional and industry experience in the areas of business services, taxation, auditing, and financial planning as well as consulting services including performance measurement and risk management.

Tarek has strong links with professional accounting bodies both in Australia and overseas, including CPA, CAANZ, CIMA, and CGMA. Currently, He has served as a member of the executive committee of the CIMA Victoria Branch (July 2019 - 2022). Previously, he has served as an executive committee member of the CIMA Australia ACT Branch Committee (July 2012 - June 2016), member of the CPA Australia Albury-Wodonga Branch Council (February 2017 - January 2019), and a regional branch committee member of the CAANZ Albury-Wodonga Group (August 2016 - April 2018).

Teaching interests

He has over 10 years of teaching experience in Australia and taught all major accounting courses. Recently he has developed Accounting Data Analytics and Visualisation course at RMIT.

Research interests

His research aims to bring new theoretical ideas about the rapidly changing technology landscape and the critical role and impact of the accounting, technology and sustainability practices created for organising and managing it. His Research works have earned recognition, such as Dean's award and College's award for research excellence and invitation to edit research books and special issues in top ranked journals.
