RMIT Open Day is your chance to get firsthand experience with your future university. But what do you do when you get there?

Open Day is all about discovering your future, at RMIT we’re confident our Open Day will do more than that – it’ll open your mind to new possibilities. To help you prepare we’re giving you a glimpse of what’ll be there on the day. 

RMIT has three Open Day events in August, one at each of our Melbourne campuses – Bundoora, Brunswick and City. Here's just a glimpse of what'll be there on the day.

Which campus is right for you?

Before you actually come to an RMIT Open Day, you might find yourself wondering which one is right for you. Each of our campuses is amazing in their own way, and each offers different study areas and facilities.  

Our iconic RMIT Melbourne City campus has facilities covering every study area. No matter what you’re interested in, the City campus will have it. There are inspiring spaces at our Brunswick campus that focus on design and fashion, and you won’t want to miss the high-tech marvels of the Bundoora campus, which caters to health, building, education and more. Also at the Bundoora campus is our new Bundoora Trades Innovation Centre, you won’t want to miss a chance to check it out.  

Here's a quick breakdown of exactly which study areas are offered at each of our Melbourne campuses:

The city campus has facilities and information sessions about all RMIT study areas. You’ll find everything from Architecture to Business to Engineering

What to do when you arrive

If you’re arriving at RMIT Open Day and aren’t sure where to go first, stop in at the Welcome Marquee. Psst… you can get an event guide there which will save you a lot of time and help you navigate the campus.  

At Bundoora, the marquee will be near Building 224, and at Brunswick, you’ll find it between Buildings 515 and 511.  There will be a few different Welcome Marquees around the City campus, but the first one you’ll see will likely be on Bowen Street next to Building 1.

Remember: If you’re ever feeling lost while on-campus check Google Maps. Each RMIT building is listed on Google for your convenience.

Take part in our experiences and activities 

Think of Open Day as your ticket to different possibilities and futures and behind the many doors of RMIT, you’ll find new opportunities.  Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come at the 2025 Open Day:

Explore our state-of-the-art Trades Innovation Centre, led by our experienced trades teachers. You’ll explore our workshops and high-tech training spaces, giving you an inside look at the tools and environments used by industry professionals. 

  • Experience virtual welding with our cutting-edge simulator, which lets you safely practice realistic welding skills. Operate a virtual digger to test your hand-eye coordination and see what it’s like to work in civil construction. Register for the Trades Innovation Centre Workshop Tour at the trades marquee in the Central Courtyard! 
  • Try your hand at carpentry by building a small wooden stool to take home, using basic tools and techniques under expert guidance.

Discover how we connect to both global and local industries with guided tours and info sessions that include displays of student work.  

Design 
  • Step into the creative realm of Graphic Design with a series of engaging, hands-on experiences.  
  • Discover the art of hand lettering in live workshops led by our talented design staff, using professional-grade tools and materials. 
Fashion 
  • For aspiring stylists and designers, come and work with our students who can dress you up to walk the catwalk, giving you a first-hand behind the scenes look at this most glamorous of industries.

Art 
  • Creative Industries is showcasing its facilities, courses, students and staff with a "Creative Hub" at Building 94. Catch demonstrations, presentations, activations and info sessions for courses ranging from Visual Arts to Professional Writing and Editing. 
Business 
  • Explore the cutting-edge RMIT Trading Facility, designed to provide finance students with hands-on experience using real-time financial data. Our practical teaching methods will be on display with interactive trading activities. 
  • Find out how platforms like TikTok predict what you’ll watch next. Step into the world of marketing tech and experiment with the tools shaping today’s digital landscape. 
Communications 
  • Hungry Talks®️ is a student-run, live-streamed TV show designed to provide RMIT advertising students and advertising industry professionals "food for thought”. At Open Day you can catch highlights from the show and join a live Q&A featuring our advertising alumni and past hosts.
Design 
  • Explore student work that reflects our commitment to acknowledging and respecting the histories, voices, and knowledge systems of First Nations peoples, and our responsibility to Care for Country.

Media 
  • Join us on the dance floor at the Music Industry Silent Disco. On the decks we have Bby Cass, one of our finest student DJs. Our staff will be on hand to answer your questions about the Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry) program. 
Nursing 
  • Tour the nursing facilities at the City campus, see our interactive simulation laboratory, and immersive simulation manikins. 

At the City and Bundoora Open Days there will also be a constant parade of activity on the performers. Keep an eye on it throughout the day to see multi-cultural performances that highlight the diversity of experiences and students at RMIT.   

Where to find food

You can’t enjoy your day on an empty stomach – so it’s a good thing there are plenty of food options. There will be an assortment of food vendors ranging from delicious street food to RMIT’s very own Oxford Scholar on the City campus.  

Guess what? There will also be free coffee at each of the Open Day events.  

If you’re craving something in particular, keep in mind that the City campus is in the heart of Melbourne and there are many amazing options close at hand. We’ve even got a handy list of cheap eats nearby the campus

Discovering student life and support services 

You’ll see a lot of the student-run clubs and societies around each of the campuses on the day. Many of them will have their own marquees and members ready to explain what they’re all about. From the Astronomy Society to the RMIT Battlebots club, you’ll find a bit of everything at Open Day.

Think of Open Day as one big festival and behind the many doors of RMIT, you’ll find different opportunities.  

Getting between City and Brunswick  

If you’re at the Melbourne City campus and planning to visit Brunswick, or the other way around, there will be free shuttle buses travelling between the two campuses throughout the day. 

Keep in mind that the Brunswick Open Day finishes at 3pm, while the City campus Open Day finishes at 4pm.
