Apprenticeship Support Program

The Apprenticeship Support Program, funded by the Victorian Government, assists apprentices to successfully navigate the apprenticeship system and to work through any challenges that may occur during their apprenticeship, whether they are workplace, training or personal in nature.

The program engages Apprenticeship Support Officers (ASOs) across Victoria to offer a free, confidential, support and advice service to help apprentices work through challenges and successfully complete their apprenticeships.

ASOs can assist apprentices with referrals to other bodies such as the VRQA, Centrelink, the Fair Work Ombudsman and WorkSafe.  Connections can also be made to learner support, employment services, and an array of local health services providing counselling services, drug and alcohol counselling and mental health support.

Some of the issues that an ASO can assist with are:

  • Wage, Entitlement & Superannuation queries
  • Employer not releasing apprentice to attend off the job training, enrolment issues
  • Apprentices unsupervised on site and OHS concerns
  • Bullying/Discrimination/Harassment within the workplace
  • Problems with schooling, falling behind and finding learning support
  • Financial issues, unable to pay school fees
  • Placed on ‘downtime’ for long periods or ‘out of trade' (unemployed)
  • Just need someone to talk to about the apprenticeship and not sure who can help
