Learning at RMIT is delivered through a hybrid and flexible model designed to support meaningful engagement with staff, industry, and peers. Depending on the course structure, you will participate in both on-campus and online learning. This typically includes a combination of face-to-face classes (for example, two days on campus) and scheduled online learning (such as one day from home).
Online learning may involve recorded lectures, readings, videos, and interactive activities, providing greater flexibility and accessibility. However, on-campus attendance remains compulsory for activities that require in-person participation, including role plays, simulations, practical classes, and assessments where applied skills must be demonstrated.
You should also be aware that if a scheduled on-campus class is moved online for operational or flexibility reasons, attendance and active participation are still required. The expectations for attendance apply equally to both face-to-face and scheduled online sessions.
This blended approach is designed to provide flexibility while ensuring you meet the practical and industry requirements of your course.
Assessment occurs through a variety of methods including:
The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.
Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.
The world is constantly changing, and there are universal skills that can help you adapt to the evolving nature of work and global engagement.
