Excellence in research

We focus on research that addresses the questions essential to Australia's innovation agenda as well as current global challenges.

The recent Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) report ranked RMIT Physical Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Environmental Science and Management, and Microbiology as ‘well above standard’ – the highest possible ranking available.

Other areas within the School, including Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, Distributed Computing and Data Format were ranked ‘above world standard’.

The School is home to outstanding research centres, including the Centre for Advanced Materials and Industrial Chemistry, the Information Security and Network Science Research Group, and the Satellite Positioning for Atmosphere, Climate and Environment (SPACE) Research Centre.
