About

Jung-Joo (JJ) Lee is Professor and Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) in the School of Design at RMIT University. Her work focuses on service design, co-design, and design for societal transitions, with particular expertise in public sector innovation, emerging technologies, care futures, and service ecosystem design.

Prior to joining RMIT, JJ worked in the Division of Industrial Design at the National University of Singapore, where she founded the Service Design Lab Singapore. Her research advances participatory, systemic, and infrastructural approaches to design, examining how design can shape more equitable, sustainable, and caring futures. She has led numerous interdisciplinary collaborations with government agencies, industry partners, and community organisations across Asia-Pacific, securing more than USD 6 million in competitive research funding.

Beyond her research, Lee is an active leader in the international design community. She serves on the International Advisory Council of the Design Research Society (DRS), is a Senior Scientific Committee member of ServDes, and Senior Editor of Designing. She is also General Chair of ACM Designing Interactive Systems (DIS) 2026, one of the premier international conferences in human-computer interaction and interaction design.

JJ received her PhD in Design from Aalto University, Finland, and holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Industrial Design from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea. Her interdisciplinary background has shaped a research agenda that bridges design, technology, policy, and social innovation.
