About

Dr Zhendong Li is an ARC DECRA Fellow at the RMIT Centre for Additive Manufacturing (RCAM), collaborating with Professor Ma Qian on the development of metallic programmable metamaterials. He uses high-resolution additive manufacturing to create three-dimensional multiscale, multi-topology and disordered architectures for tailoring and programming mechanical behaviour, wave propagation and thermal transport. Previously, he held research positions at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, the National University of Singapore, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Dr Li has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Mater. Today, Rep. Prog. Phys., Adv. Funct. Mater., Adv. Sci., Mater. Horiz., etc. His FWCI reached 5.37 (Aug, 2026), with research spanning four SciVal global top-1% topic clusters on metamaterials. He was recognised among the Stanford/Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists in 2023 and 2025. He serves as Senior Editor of Virtual and Physical Prototyping and has contributed as a Session Chair at ICCES 2025–2026 and an invited speaker at several leading international conferences. He also contributes as a peer reviewer for leading journals, including Nat. Commun., Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Mater. Horiz., Research, Addit. Manuf., etc.
