About
Karen Luu is an Entrepreneur in Residence within the Department of International Business, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in RMIT University’s School of Management. She is a business educator, consultant and coach with professional experience spanning entrepreneurship, business consulting, organisational development, learning design and higher education.
Her work is centred on helping individuals and organisations turn ideas into action. She has a particular interest in personal and professional development, building cultures that support learning, and helping people develop the confidence and capabilities to navigate complex business challenges.
Before moving into higher education, Karen worked across consulting, business operations, coaching and learning design. Her industry experience has involved working with organisations to understand business problems, coordinate projects, develop people and capability, and translate complex information into practical solutions. She has also founded and operated her own coaching practice, supporting individuals in their personal and professional development.
At RMIT, Karen teaches across entrepreneurship, innovation, design thinking and leadership. Her approach to education draws strongly on her industry experience and focuses on active and applied learning, encouraging students to work with real business problems, challenge assumptions and develop solutions that can create value for organisations and their stakeholders.
Karen is herself a graduate of RMIT's Executive MBA and holds a Bachelor of Design (Honours), a Graduate Diploma of Counselling and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Her multidisciplinary background influences the way she approaches business education, combining commercial thinking with human-centred problem solving, creativity and development.

Teaching interests
Karen's teaching interests include entrepreneurship, innovation, design thinking, leadership and management, business problem solving, and the application of business frameworks to real-world decision making.
Her teaching approach focuses on helping students move beyond understanding concepts to applying them. She uses practical business problems, industry contexts and experiential learning to encourage students to explore different perspectives, test their thinking and develop confidence in their own judgement.
Karen has a particular interest in supporting students to develop the skills required to navigate ambiguity. She encourages students to question assumptions, identify the underlying problem, use evidence to inform decisions and translate ideas into practical action.
She is also interested in creating supportive learning environments that recognise the different professional, educational and personal experiences students bring to the classroom. Her approach emphasises learning as a developmental process in which students build both capability and confidence.
Research interests
Entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial mindset and behaviour, leadership development, learning cultures, design thinking, personal development, and the factors that enable individuals to move from entrepreneurial aspiration to action.
