Before you apply

Before you start your application, make sure you understand:

  • Application dates and timeline requirements. If you need a student visa, apply and accept your offer at least 4-8 weeks before your course start date to allow for application assessment, visa processing, and arrival in Australia.
  • Student visa requirements and eligibility for study. Most international students will need a student visa to study in Australia.
  • Credit for previous study may be recognised. You may be eligible for credit which may reduce the duration of your qualification.

Step 1: Choose your course and check entry requirements

Search for your preferred course and review the entry requirements listed on the course page. These may include:

Step 2: Prepare your documents

You will need the following required documents to apply:

  • Academic transcripts and graduation certificates
  • Evidence of English language level
  • Any additional course-specific documents.

Step 3: Submit your application

Before submitting your application, you can contact RMIT's international advisors for support. They can help you confirm entry requirements, required documents and how to apply for your chosen course.

The way you apply depends on your course and previous study. Check your course page to apply through:

  • RMIT's Application Portal OR
  • VTAC, if you have studied an Australian Year 12 ​(in Australia or overseas) or an International Baccalaureate ​(​in Australia or New Zealand).

You can apply directly to RMIT or with support from an RMIT-authorised agent. Some applicants may be required to pay an application fee, and are strongly encouraged to submit their applications through an authorised agent.

After you apply

Once you've submitted your application, it will be reviewed by our admissions team. While your application is being assessed, you should be aware of:

  • Common causes of delays for application assessment. Missing or incomplete documents are the most frequent reason for delays.
  • Assessment timeframes for your application. The average time to assess a complete application varies based on the course and application type.
  • How to track your application. You can follow your application progress via the Application Portal.
  • Additional documents required to accept your offer and a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) to be issued for your student visa application.

While your application is being assessed, you can also explore scholarships available to international students.

Next steps after your application is assessed

Review and accept your offer

Once your application has been assessed, you may receive an offer. Follow the instructions in your offer letter to accept, arrange Overseas Student Health Cover and pay your deposit. After you accept your offer, RMIT may issue your Confirmation of Enrolment.

Apply for a Visa

To study in Australia, most international students will need a student visa (subclass 500).  After you accept your offer, you can use your Confirmation of Enrolment to apply for your student visa. It is important to apply for a student visa early to avoid processing delays.
