Dr Joseph Kim is a Senior Lecturer in International Business at RMIT University’s School of Management. He holds a PhD from UNSW Business School and has an interdisciplinary background spanning international business, political economy and law.
As Major Coordinator of the Global Business major within RMIT’s Bachelor of Business, Joseph provides academic leadership for a program delivered across RMIT Melbourne and RMIT Vietnam, as well as through RMIT’s partner institutions -the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) in China. He works closely with academic teams across these locations to support curriculum alignment, academic quality and a globally connected student experience.
Joseph previously served as Program Manager of RMIT’s Master of International Business, where he led the restructuring and implementation of a revitalised, future-focused and industry-aligned program. The program subsequently received significant recognition in the 2025 QS Top Universities International Trade Rankings, ranking No. 1 in Australia for Trade Programme Content, and 29th globally overall.
Joseph’s research sits at the intersection of digital transformation and international business. His work examines how digital technologies are reshaping leadership, innovation, organisational culture, global work and cross-cultural management. His broader research interests include global mindset, responsible digital transformation, workplace innovation, employee wellbeing, public-sector reform, economic development in the Asia–Pacific region, and the Korean cultural industries and cultural policy. His research is characterised by international and multidisciplinary collaboration and a strong commitment to generating practical value for organisations, policymakers and communities.
Joseph is an innovative and research-led educator who designs authentic, inclusive and industry-responsive learning experiences. He developed Global CulturED, an AI-supported intercultural learning tool that enables students to rehearse complex cross-cultural workplace interactions, receive formative feedback and strengthen their cultural intelligence. His teaching also incorporates interactive learning technologies, digital portfolios, educational podcasts, collaborative learning activities and career-focused assessments to prepare students for an increasingly digital and globally connected workplace.
He works closely with industry partners and RMIT alumni to co-create case studies, guest lectures, mentoring activities and Work Integrated Learning experiences. These collaborations connect academic learning with contemporary organisational challenges while strengthening students’ professional capabilities and employability. Joseph also coordinates the undergraduate Global Business course and supervises research in international business, leadership, culture and digital transformation.
