Strive toward a career in cricket with the C5407MCE plan. Through the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy (MCEA), students will work with Cricket Victoria and its partner network, gaining two qualifications in one.

RMIT has partnered with Cricket Victoria to engage sport enthusiasts in business and leadership study, so you'll graduate with both the Diploma of Leadership and Management and the Diploma of Business. Through this course, you can explore key topics in business, leadership, strategic planning and marketing within a sporting context. You'll be fully immersed in the industry environment, with classes conducted on site at The CitiPower Centre (Junction Oval, St Kilda) and at RMIT city campus.

Perfect for fans of sport

Delivered by RMIT University, this qualification is designed especially for sport enthusiasts. It will provide you with access to elite high-performance facilities as well as key industry experts in sport and entertainment.

Hosted at the CitiPower Centre in St Kilda, you'll undertake a dual Diploma of Business/Diploma of Leadership and Management in a unique one-year full-time course.

In addition to the dual diploma delivered by RMIT University, you will have the option to select from two elite sporting streams: the Cricket Development Program or the Sports Business Placement Program.

About the qualification

In addition to studying a dual diploma delivered by RMIT, you can choose between two streams to enhance your experience.

Learning and teaching

Your learning in this diploma will include interactive classes that engage you in teamwork and leadership, independent research, and presentations, all designed to help you build broad, foundational skills.

Classes will be held face-to-face at Junction Oval, home of Cricket Victoria, and at RMIT’s city campus. Throughout your studies, you will be supported by industry experts and Cricket Victoria staff who will provide an intimate perspective on working in elite sport.

Assessment methods

Your assessment in this diploma will take various forms depending on the subjects you undertake. These may include written work, practical demonstrations, presentations, self-directed research and work placement activities.

With access to elite athletes, coaches, C staff and mentors, you will be immersed in the operations of an elite cricket club.  

You'll gain exclusive insights into football, events, member growth and engagement, community programs, facility operations, and match-day operations.

You will undertake 100 hours of voluntary work experience across Cricket Victoria and its partner network, giving you access to a variety of experiences and the opportunity to build your network in sport.

Your work experience will be provided by Cricket Victoria, including with the Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades Women’s Big Bash Leagues (W/BBL) clubs.

Students can expect up to 20 hours of face-to-face classes across three days a week at the CitiPower Centre at Junction Oval, including four days a year on RMIT city campus, plus independent study time.  

The knowledge and skills you will acquire throughout this diploma and how they can be applied in your career are described in the learning outcomes.

Your study will cover key areas of business and leadership through the lens of their application to the sporting industry.

Through your studies in this diploma, you will gain insight into the inner workings of the sporting business, including cricket operations, fan and community engagement, membership operations, marketing and communications, events, clinics and more.

About the Diploma of Business and Diploma of Leadership and Management

RMIT has partnered with both the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy and Essendon Football Club to engage sport enthusiasts in leadership study, graduating with both the Diploma of Leadership and Management as well as the Diploma of Business. Through these plans, you will have the opportunity to explore key topics in leadership, strategic planning and marketing through a sporting context.

Career outcomes

As a graduate of this dual diploma, you will have the enhanced leadership skills to facilitate initiative and judgement in planning and organising, when implementing and monitoring your own workload and the workload of others. 

You will develop enhanced communication skills to be able to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements. These skills are applicable both sporting and non-sporting roles.

Potential careers for graduates of the dual Diploma of Leadership and Management and Diploma of Business partnership with the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy include:

  • team leader
  • fan engagement officer
  • business manager
  • production manager 
  • operations manager 
  • department manager.

Each year, two students from the course will have to opportunity to be selected for graduate job roles within Cricket Victoria.
