Based on the RMIT entry requirements, this course is designed considering most of the learners will have prior knowledge, skills and experience in the area, however there is a provision for the cohort of learners with less prior knowledge or experience to gain the required level through self-paced additional activities.
It will be necessary to complete prescribed tasks outside of class time and make a commitment to undertake study outside of the classroom to provide the best prospect of a successful outcome. You'll be required to access a range of research and practice activities in your own time. Pre-class weekly activities have also been set up in Canvas that require you to watch videos, read articles or conduct research in preparation for the week. These activities assist you in better understanding the topic that will be covered in class, it also facilitates classroom discussions, enabling better participation and overall experience.
Assessment tasks are designed to simulate the workplace and require you to demonstrate the practical application of knowledge and skills that underpin this qualification. Job tasks are drawn directly from industry and performance must meet industry standards.
The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.
Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.

This course is competency-based and has been designed to help you develop the practical skills and knowledge necessary to work effectively in your chosen field. You will learn and be assessed by practising and demonstrating your capabilities, all of which can be readily applied in the workplace.
In addition to the specific vocational skills you build throughout this course, you will also develop a set of essential employability skills, including communication, planning, organising, and problem solving, self-management, initiative and teamwork. These foundational skills will enable you to navigate the world of work, collaborate effectively with others, and successfully get the job done.
Throughout this qualification you will be required to attend one day, 6 hours per week face-to-face at the city campus, plus a 6-hour online class per week with an additional 6 hours (one day) of assessments support per week for the duration of the course.

You need to satisfy all of the following academic (entry) requirements to be considered for entry into this course.
Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) (or equivalent qualification)
AND
At least 6 months of full-time work experience (or part-time equivalent) in the Disability Sector.
There are no prerequisite subjects required for entry into this qualification.
