Dr Michael Hartup is a Lecturer in the Youth Work Program within the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies.
Michael is a lecturer at RMIT University in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies. Michael’s research focusses on young people’s experiences of mental illness, participation in creative practice, popular culture studies, experience of climate related disasters, civic participation and vulnerability and resilience studies. His most recent publication is a report co-authored with Philippa Collin, Sky Hugman and Ammar Randawa in 2024 titled ‘What matters to young people in turbulent times?’ which explored insights from the 2019-2023 What Matters? writing competition run by the Whitlam Institute.
Michael has been teaching at RMIT since 2020 and has taught and coordinated a range of courses as part of the Bachelor of Youth Work and Youth Studies program.
