Dr Hakeem is a research translation fellow in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, School of Engineeing. Working closely with industry partners, he is leading the development of a novel process for heavy metals reocvery from biosolids for high-value biochar production. Dr Hakeem recieved his PhD from RMIT University in 2023 under the supervision of Professor Kalpit Shah. e holds an MSc in Sustainable Chemical Engineering from the University of Bath, United Kingdom and a BEng (Honours) in Chemical Engineering. He has strong fundamentals in chemical engineering which he consistently employed in designing new processes for waste valorisation and resource recovery. Dr Hakeem has established strong reserach collobaration with the Australian water sector and has recieved prominent industry awards including the Student Water Prize Award and Paul Darvodelsky Biosolids Award for his work on heavy metals recovery from biosolids. He is a researcher in the ARC Training Centre for the Transformation of Australia's Biosolids Resource based at RMIT University where he works closely with the water industry developing technological solutions to biosolids managment and wastewater treatment. Dr Hakeem currently serve on the Early Career Editorial Board of Chemical Engineering Journal and a Guest Editor for Energies Journal. He is a professional member of Engineers Australia.
