About

Gabrielle is the Principal Advisor Academic for the Office of Indigenous Education, Research and Engagement at RMIT University. Gabrielle provides high level strategic advice to the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous, and has responsibilities in learning and teaching, research, and curriculum innovation.

 

Her role is two-fold: to progress the University’s strategic priority of developing a culture of respect and participation central to the goals of inclusion, diversity and Indigenous affairs; and to support the educational aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and researchers. She leads work in collaboration with First Nation colleagues on the development of a university-wide approach to embedding Indigenous perspectives in curriculum through guiding principles.

Gabrielle co-ordinates the Indigenous Research Network and she is is a member of the Regenerative Futures Institution Management Group and an invited member of the cross institutional research project, Towards Culturally Regenerative Universities, offering advice on Indigenous knowledges, practices and protocols. Her research is broadly concerned with knowledge transfer in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research and education, curriculum innovation and regenerative futures. She is also a member of the Editorial Review Board for Higher Education Research &Development and peer reviews for the Australian Educational Researcher.

 

She has over 25 years’ experience as a teaching and research academic, much of it spent at La Trobe University as a senior lecturer and program coordinator, and she is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching interests

The Principles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives in Learning and Teaching can be used as a guide by RMIT teams to include Indigenous Perspectives in the curriculum.
