About

Dr Guodong Ma received his PhD from Monash University (September 2019 – January 2024), where his research focused on unsaturated soil mechanics, slope failure, and fully coupled seepage–deformation analysis. Before joining RMIT University as a Research Assistant collaborating with Professor Annan Zhou, he worked as a Research Fellow at Monash University from January 2024 to March 2025. His work employs the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) mesh-free method to simulate complex hydro-mechanical interactions in geomaterials, with a particular emphasis on internal erosion and water leakage–induced slope failures. Dr Ma’s research aims to advance the understanding and numerical modelling of geotechnical hazards under coupled hydraulic and mechanical conditions. He is also dedicated to developing new SPH algorithms to extend its application in geotechnical engineering and enhance predictive modelling capabilities.
