Dr. Muhammad Safiullah (Safi), CPA is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at RMIT University, Australia. He is the recipient of the College of Business and Law Research Excellence (ECR) Award in 2023. His research expertise is in sustainable Finance, banking, gender diversity, Islamic finance and corporate governance.
Safi's original research appeared in 23 top-ranked peer-reviewed journals, including 4 in ABDC-A* and 19 in ABDC-A-ranked journals. He published in leading journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance, Energy Economics, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, International Review of Financial Analysis, International Review of Finance, among others.
He received over $170,000 in external and internal research grants. He published 2 Conversation articles and several media pieces, and his impactful research has been featured in the mainstream media, such as Yahoo News, SBS News, The Australian Today, Hashtag, and MFIN. The ABC Radio National, ABC Radio Perth, and Eastside Radio Sydney, Australia, have also interviewed him for his comments on Australian banking. Safi's research expertise is recognized by being invited to speak internationally at academic and non-academic events. He serves as an associate editor, a special issue guest editor, an editorial advisory board member, and an ad-hoc reviewer of ten ABDC-A-ranked journals.
He teaches Money and Debt Markets and Frontiers in FinTech and Innovation Courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Safi has received the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing 'Award for Learning and Teaching Excellence 2024'. He was also named as a Finalist for the student-nominated College of Business and Law (COBL) 'L&T Impact Award,' a recognition for teaching impact on student life and work for two consecutive years (2023 & 2022) since its initiation in 2022.
