A lecturer in the School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain, Shannon is an experienced educator, researcher and a Chartered Accountant. She has extensive experience in curriculum design and delivery in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Australia and Singapore. In addition to her role at RMIT, Shannon has acted as a mentor and facilitated workshops as part of the CA program for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ). Shannon has presented her research at several national and international conferences and has published her research in A* and A-ranked journals. She is passionate about currency and relevance of education and as such, has a keen interest in accounting and business technologies and maintaining links with the profession through a strong industry network.
Shannon has experience working in a business advisory role providing accounting and taxation services to clients from a range of industries including the not-for-profit sector. She is a Xero certified advisor and has supported a number of SME’s from a range of industries to optimise cloud-based accounting systems. Shannon has previously served as an elected Councillor on the CAANZ Victorian Regional Council representing the interests of Chartered Accountants across Victoria. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the profession, Shannon achieved advancement to fellowship of CAANZ in 2022 for service and participation with distinction to CAANZ, as well as her contributions to teaching, research, and writing within the field of accounting, which reflect positively on the profession.
Shannon has over ten years of teaching experience in a tertiary environment, across undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Her teaching experience has been diverse, including both onshore and offshore settings. She has taught in both face-to-face and online formats, adapting to different modes of delivery. Her teaching expertise extends across multiple disciplines, including financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, strategic accounting, performance analysis, and accounting technology and systems.
Shannon has leadership experience in course design having led and been part of course design teams in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. She has developed courses for Open Universities Australia and RMIT Online as well as for face-to-face delivery.
Shannon's research agenda focuses on both accounting education and accounting as a social practice and its impact on our world. Her aim is to advance knowledge on the social implications of accounting practices and contribute to the improvement of accounting education for the betterment of society.
