A critical part of climate action is improving how supply chain emissions are quantified and reduced, noting these emissions are often the largest and least well understood. Current methodologies based on spend analysis do not accurately reflect an organisation's Scope 3 emissions footprint, while supplier surveys place a significant burden on reporting organisations. This PhD stipend is intended to support practical, actionable research that strengthens supply chain transparency, with tangible outcomes for complex organisations like RMIT and broader industry. Given supply chains are also subject to an evolving landscape of sustainability reporting requirements, including human rights and nature, this work may create methodologies and tools that can be replicated for broader sustainability supply chain impacts.
The successful candidate will work closely with sustainability and procurement professionals in RMIT Property Services, with the opportunity to pilot research outputs in a complex operating environment. The supervisor and School will be confirmed based on candidate selection and the final PhD scope.
