Industry 4.0 was criticised for disadvantaging particular segments of the working population, resulting in job loss, bringing unintended consequences for workers' physical safety and mental wellbeing. In contrast, Industry 5.0 focuses on ethical and humane use of technology, paving the way for leveraging human–machine collaborations for greater societal safety and well-being. The current skill shortage in the construction industry is threatening the industry's sustainability. The Australian construction industry also needs to address the ageing workforce and lack of gender diversity. The PhD research project will create new knowledge about how the construction industry can transform its work processes to involve more human robot teaming (HRT). In order to achieve human robot teaming that allows humans and robots to work synergistically and safety together, we need to understand different stakeholders' concerns and preparedness to change the way they work. The aim of this PhD project is to assess construction organisations' readiness for healthy, safe and sustainable implementation of HRT solutions and exploring factors that impact this readiness.
