Applicants would ideally possess an undergraduate Honours or Master's degree in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Biotechnology or Cell/Molecular Biology, that includes knowledge in fluid mechanics/device physics and experience in conducting research projects.

Familiarity with cell culture and biological assays, microscopy, acoustics and nanofabrication would be advantageous. The successful candidate must have a keen interest in experimental work and a drive towards achieving practicable solutions for 'real world' applications.

The project aims to show the possibility of activating immune cells purely through high frequency vibrational stimuli, which has never been demonstrated to date.

Fundamental studies and theoretical modelling to understand how biochemical signalling cascades within the cell are programmed by such stimuli will allow us to design and optimise practical cell engineering platforms.

In the long term, translation of this breakthrough technology will serve as a key enabler for practically engineering immune cells in the laboratory to alter their reactivity to a patient's immune response. Such cell-based therapies are expected to revolutionise the treatment of many conditions, including cancer or autoimmune diseases.
