This collaborative project between St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, RMIT University, the University of Melbourne, and partner institutions aims to develop an intelligent, real-time monitoring system to improve surgeon wellbeing, safety, and performance. By integrating wearable physiological sensors, AI-powered markerless motion capture, biomechanical analysis, voice recordings, and cognitive assessments, the system will continuously evaluate surgeons' posture, musculoskeletal injury risk, stress, fatigue, and communication. Initially validated through simulated surgical tasks, the technology will be adapted for use in operating theatres to provide objective, personalised feedback, support ergonomic interventions, reduce occupational injuries, and enhance surgical performance and patient safety.
