PhD Scholarship in Gold-based drugs for the effective treatment of cancer

Develop novel gold-based therapeutics for cancer and investigate their biological activity, molecular targets, and mechanisms of action using interdisciplinary approaches.

The scholarship will fund a 3-year PhD candidature to work in the Chemistry Department of the School of Science, CAMIC Laboratory.

The value of the scholarship is equivalent to a standard RMIT Scholarship.

Applicants should have a background in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline. Experience in synthetic inorganic, organometallic, medicinal, or bioinorganic chemistry is highly desirable. Experience with analytical characterisation techniques and/or biological evaluation of therapeutic agents will be advantageous. Applicants with an interest in interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry and cancer biology are strongly encouraged to apply.

Desirable criteria:

  • Interest in cancer research, drug discovery, chemical biology, or medicinal chemistry.
  • Experience in synthetic inorganic, organometallic, medicinal, or bioinorganic chemistry.Familiarity with analytical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, FTIR spectroscopy, electrochemistry, UV–Vis spectroscopy, or X-ray crystallography.Experience with cell culture, biological assays, or molecular biology techniques is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
