Details

RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches, including lectures, seminars, workshops, presentations, group discussions and group work.

You will learn in workshops that are organised in clusters to streamline content delivery and assessment. The focus is on delivering key concepts and offering opportunities for interaction, discussion, peer support, guest speakers and hands-on activities.

You will undertake work related projects and tasks to develop practical skills and apply knowledge, demonstrating your abilities to function effectively in a supervisory role.

The subjects in this course are contextualised to industry applications wherever possible, demonstrations and practical sessions and/or workplace sessions are incorporated wherever appropriate in the delivery strategy. Classes are interactive and give you many opportunities to discuss ideas and practice new skills. You will participate in learning activities such as:

  • leading and working in teams to ensure a successful outcome of a project
  • identify areas for continuous improvement
  • perform a risk analysis
  • develop critical thinking skills
  • develop your emotional intelligence
  • communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • business resources management skills
  • presentation of work to various stakeholders

In addition to developing skills and knowledge for a particular job, this diploma also aims to help you to develop broad work skills, known as foundation skills.

You are expected to undertake self-directed learning in addition to those activities provided in class. This self-directed learning will often be based upon research, and reading of relevant knowledge elements of the course. Where you have the opportunity to do so, you are encouraged to apply skill elements in your actual workplace.

All subjects use your workplace or experience as a context for learning.

You will be assessed on structured activities that demonstrate your vocational competency either in the workplace or a business simulation.

If your job relates to this diploma, you have the opportunity to be assessed in your workplace. Feedback from work supervisors and colleagues can be used as evidence of your competency and fulfilling skills or knowledge requirements of some or all of your subjects.

In the Essendon Football Club dual diploma, you will undertake 100 hours of real-life work experience provided across the EFC and its partner network, giving you access to elite high-performance facilities and key industry contacts. Upon completion of the diploma, you will have the opportunity for one of two graduate roles within the EFC.

Skills recognition provides opportunities for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competence (RCC). Previous learning can include relevant life and work experience, as well as formal education and professional development related to the particular qualification.

The School of Vocational Business Education offers full skills recognition for this diploma. If you believe you already have the skills and knowledge required for this qualification, you should discuss this with your facilitator, who will provide additional information and advice regarding how to apply for skills recognition and the kind of evidence that may be required.

Most of your learning and teaching activities will be on two midweek evenings over one year.

Your VET Student Loan becomes part of your VETSL debt. You will start repaying your accumulated VETSL debt to the Australian Government once you earn above the minimum income threshold for repayment, which is adjusted each year (this also applies if you are still studying).

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will calculate your compulsory repayment for the year and include this on your income tax notice.

For more information see VET Student Loans or Study Assist.

VET Student Loan cap

If your program is eligible for the VET Student Loan scheme and has a loan cap that doesn’t cover the total amount of the tuition fees for your program, then you’ll need to pay RMIT the difference by the due date once you exceed the cap.

It’s easy for you to keep track of your VET Student Loan debt, and you can choose to make upfront payments at any time before the census date.
