Aviation Academy

The RMIT Aviation Academy is at the forefront of aviation education, training, and research. It is sector-leading in pilot training with the largest owned fleet in Australian Higher Education.

With advanced research facilities in Melbourne and flight training sites at Point Cook (home of the RAAF) and in regional Victoria (Bendigo), RMIT offers students and clients easy access to airspace, terrain, and urban development to maximise navigational experiences. RMIT students are also connected with industry leaders for global career opportunities.

Join us in Point Cook and discover your career in Aviation and Flight Training! 

At RMIT Aviation Academy Open Day, our experienced flight instructors and students are on standby to talk to you about the range of career opportunities in aviation. 

Take a tour of RMIT's dedicated flight training facilities at Point Cook and learn why being the only flight school on a dedicated RAAF base means more take-offs and more hours in the air. 

Our entire fleet of aircraft will be on display, including the multi-engine Piper Seminole and Super Decathlon used for aerobatic manoeuvres. Come along and meet our RMIT Flight Instructors, current students, and industry experts. You can also find the answers to all your questions and learn everything there is to know about becoming a pilot.

We will also be running information sessions throughout the day, these sessions will go for 30 minutes and run at the following times:

  • 11.00am - 11.30am
  • 1.00pm - 1.30pm
  • 2.30pm - 3.00pm

You'll also have the opportunity to view our flight simulators, enjoy a free barbeque and coffee. 

Please note: All persons over 18 attending the event site or carparks must produce Photo ID in line with Australian Defence Force requirements; this includes current Australian Driver’s License, proof of age card or an Australian or International passport. This is so that we can ensure a smooth check-in process on the day. Please note, attendee registration is a must, with one attendee per car required to register.

When you attend one of the information sessions at the RMIT Point Cook Aviation Academy Open Day, you will go into the draw to win a Trial Introductory Flight. If you're one of the lucky six that wins one of these flight experiences, you'll get the chance to take to the sky that very day (subject to weather conditions on the day).

Frequently Asked Questions

The Point Cook event will be held on Sunday 18 August between 10am and 4pm at RAAF Base Point Cook, Point Cook Road, Point Cook, Victoria.

The Bendigo event will be held on Sunday 25 August between 10am and 3pm at RMIT Bendigo Airfield, 35 Victa Road, East Bendigo, Victoria. 

Aviation Academy Open Day is for everyone, especially students and parents. It’s a great way for parents and guardians to get an insight into RMIT’s Aviation study and course, explore our flight training facilities and have all your questions answered. 

Aviation Academy Open Day is for anyone interested in becoming a pilot, no matter their age. Whether you know exactly what you want to study or are curious about what aviation options are available at RMIT, this is the event to find out. 

Point Cook Flight Training Open Day

If you are coming to the Bendigo Aviation Academy Open Day Photo ID and registration are not required, although we recommend registering to stay up-to-date.
