Overview

The System and Network Plus Technician Skill Set has been designed to provide learners with the theoretical and practical tools required to enter the ICT, computer systems and networking fields.

In this skill set you will learn how to install, configure and test network security; install and manage servers; install and operate small enterprise branch networks, and install, configure and secure a small office or home office network.

You will be taught by industry experts using up-to-date, industry-standard equipment in our specialist networking laboratories.

Through your studies, you will prepare to work in an industry role as a computer systems or network technician, or articulate to further study in information technology, cyber security and beyond.

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.

Details

You will develop skills in network infrastructure, security and administration utilising hands-on practical activities on campus in our specialist networking laboratories equipped with modern industry standard networking and datacentre equipment.

Your instructors are highly qualified and experienced industry experts who will guide you through workplace simulations, projects and practical activities.

This skill set is delivered over 18 weeks.

You can expect to spend 1 day per week on campus plus an additional 4 hours of independent study time to a total of 12 hours of study per week, during which you will undertake teacher-directed activities, assignment and project work, lab report preparation, and simulated lab activities.

In this skill set, you will undertake the following subjects:

  • ICTNWK421 Install, configure and test network security
  • ICTNWK422 Install and manage servers
  • ICTNWK424 Install and operate small enterprise branch networks
  • ICTSAS310 Install, configure and secure a small office or home office network

Undertaking a certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree can help you meet the entry requirements for your preferred degree. These qualifications often provide credit, reducing the duration of your bachelor degree.

Even though there are no formal pathways into this course, there are often other ways you can gain entry.

Students graduating from the S0162 System and Network Plus Technician Skill Set may articulate into the C4408 Certificate IV in Cyber Security.

Credit, recognition of prior learning, professional experience and accreditation from a professional body can reduce the duration of your study by acknowledging your earlier, relevant experience.

Credit and exemptions will be assessed consistent with the principles of the RMIT Credit Policy.

  • 2023 government subsidised place: AU$1,500* per annum

Annual fee adjustment
