ARC Research Hub for Intelligent Energy Efficiency in Future Protected Cropping (E2Crop Hub)

The E2Crop Hub aims to pioneer a new era in protected cropping, positioning Australia as a global leader in sustainable agriculture.

Led by RMIT Distinguished Professor Tianyi Ma and supported by 12 industry partners, the Hub is dedicated to delivering advanced energy technologies for greenhouses—making them self-sustaining, affordable, and powered by renewable energy. It will also introduce innovative automated decision-making tools to support farmers.

The Hub aims to pioneer solutions in renewable energy, plant quality enhancement, and intelligent greenhouse monitoring and analysis, unlocking the vast potential of protected cropping.

By developing cutting-edge energy systems for renewable-powered greenhouses and integrating smart decision-making technologies, the Hub seeks to enable smarter, more efficient farming practices. Key outcomes include advanced energy technologies for self-sustaining greenhouses and new automated decision-making tools that empower farmers to achieve greater efficiency and resilience. These innovations will boost crop yields, optimise resource use, create jobs, and enhance food security—all while reducing environmental impact and promoting long-term sustainability.
