This program is designed for students from a non-English speaking background who are looking to develop academic language skills to complete further study in Australia.

You will have access to online resources through the myRMIT student portal.
There are no examinations as work is assessed regularly in class.

The Certificate IV in EAL (Further Study) is offered in Semester 1 and Semester 2 each year.
Before you start the program, you will attend an interview and complete an assessment of your language skills. This will determine which certificate is most suitable for your current level of English.
You can expect to study 540 hours over the 18 weeks of this program.
You'll complete core and elective courses that provide essential further study skills.
Core courses include:
- reading and writing for research and further study
- writing complex texts
- language analysis skills
- listening and note taking
- giving complex presentations
- researching pathways and developing a learning plan.

The tuition fees you will pay for this program will depend on whether you are offered a Victorian Government subsidised place or a full-fee place. To find out if you are eligible for a government subsidised place, follow the steps at How to check if you are eligible.
- 2022 government subsidised place (with concession): AU$550.00* per annum
- 2022 government subsidised place: AU$2,750* per annum
- 2022 full-fee place: AU$6,750* per annum

Eligibility Exemption criteria
**The Victorian Government is currently waiving three (3) eligibility criteria around prior qualifications. This means that more people who want to study a vocational education program at RMIT, and who have studied previously, will be able to access a government subsidised place in a program. Payments and refunds

You may be entitled to apply for a fee concession or exemption if you are in a Victorian Government subsidised place and you meet the eligibility criteria.
If your application for a fee concession is approved, you will be charged 20% of the standard government subsidised tuition fee for your program. You will also be charged a lower rate on your student services and amenities fee (SSAF).
In addition to tuition fees, you will be charged an annual student services and amenities fee (SSAF), which is used to maintain and enhance services and amenities that improve your experience as an RMIT student.
The SSAF is calculated based on your enrolment load and the maximum fee for 2022 is $315.
