Details

This master's degree prepares you to manage the creation and implementation of efficient and sustainable strategies over the logistics life cycle across the entire supply chain.

You will gain invaluable insights from highly experienced faculty members and leading industry organisations, spanning primary production, manufacturing, shipping, distribution and retail, and master a range of strategic management competencies to advance your career in business and government organisations locally, nationally and internationally.

Learning and teaching

RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, class and group discussions, problem-based seminars, project work on-site case investigations. In addition, you will have access to online and digital resources such as lecture notes, assessment tools, discussion boards and podcasts.

Some subjects have intensive lectures/workshops which are usually held over two or three days, typically over weekends.

You can expect to learn alongside recent graduates and current practitioners from Australia and overseas, providing opportunities to form dynamic study groups and establish networks beyond the classroom that will benefit you throughout your career.

Assessment methods

Learning at RMIT

The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.

Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.

On-campus MSCLM students will benefit from regular contributions and interaction with companies like the Port of Melbourne Corporation, Coca-Cola Amatil, Cadbury Schweppes, Nike, Adidas, Toll Holdings, Wallenius Willensen, DP World and GS1.

Guiding the development of the College of Business, both nationally and internationally, is an Industry Advisory Board of high-profile executives chaired by Gerhard Vorster, Chief Strategy Officer, Deloitte. The Board creates a strategic bridge between the latest in technology and design thinking and business.

Work-connected and industry-relevant options available for this degree include:

  • Working in a student team as part of the Fastrack Innovation Program. In this elective you will work with mentors to develop and present a solution to a real problem. This form of fast-prototyping is designed so that external organisations can tap into fresh thinking from RMIT students.
  • A Business Internship elective where you take up a position for one or two days per week for one semester. This position is normally unpaid and is designed to develop your soft skills and increase your overall employability upon graduation.

Global study and work is a unique feature of this degree.

While the Master of Supply Chain and Logistics Management is delivered in Melbourne, you can combine an overseas travel and cultural experience with coursework completed in intensive mode and have this credited towards your degree. They depart during the Australian summer or winter vacations and are usually undertaken in the final semester of study.

Each year the School of Business IT and Logistics conducts tours to the USA, China and Canada in partnership with the University of Maryland, Fudan University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and Ryerson University.

If you are planning to include a study tour as part of your degree, you are advised to check that you have the required number of student electives or credit points available.
