Wei Shen
Wei Shen settled in quickly through the help of the Mentor Program at RMIT University
China
RMIT University, Melbourne
The mentoring program provides the best opportunities for international students to make friends as soon as they arrive.
Before arriving Wei Shen was nervous about not knowing anyone studying at RMIT but she quickly settled in thanks to the help of the mentor program. “The mentoring program provides the best opportunities for international students to make friends as soon as they arrive. There are many free activities and events for students to attend and I had older students to ask questions and that helped show me around.”
Wei Shen chose to study Foundation Studies as she thought it would be more beneficial than studying her final year of secondary school in her home country. “RMIT provides courses that are relevant to my bachelor degree, by studying Foundation before I go into my bachelor I learnt lots of useful skills like research, referencing and writing skills, these are the skills I will need once I get into my bachelor program. I also learnt how to work as a team to solve problems. This is something that I didn’t have a lot of experience in.”
Wei Shen chose to study the general program in Foundation Studies so she could select a wider range of courses. “RMIT is different from other universities as it has a large selection of courses to choose from. I was able to select electives from all streams which gave me more options.”
