Digital designers create the look, sound and feel – the overall experience – of the technological systems people engage with every day. This includes everything from designing user interfaces and digital services, to decoding data and telling stories through motion graphics, composing the sound design and music that scores our lives, and creating 3D and immersive simulations and environments. Digital design brings creativity together with technological experimentation, problem solving, collaboration and communication.
The Bachelor of Digital Design emphasises design processes and methods, production management, and creative direction, putting the human in the loop with the technologies we rely on. You’ll build the confidence and skills to work imaginatively and critically with emerging technologies from a strong base of design practice and technical knowledge.

Our teaching is fun and hands-on, beginning with a foundations class before moving on to technique-focused classes that build your skills. From there, studio classes provide the opportunity to apply your skills together as a practice in response to specific creative challenges and contexts.
We focus on getting students to support and engage with one another. You’ll work collaboratively with clearly defined roles and develop your work through ongoing creative discussion in the studio environment.
You’ll be assessed in class and through project work with an emphasis on creativity and process. Along the way, you’ll regularly present your work – both in progress and when delivering projects – and receive ongoing feedback from your teachers.
You’ll work on projects with industry partners such as ACMI, the Centre of Digital Ecosystems (CODE), Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS), and Xero.
You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake an industry internship as part of your coursework in your final year in the Design Internship subject.
We offer internship opportunities with industry partners as well as helping you find and gain opportunities with industry yourself through our subject Digital Design Professional Practice.
The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.
Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.

In 2026, the annual student contribution amount (tuition fee) you will pay for a standard year of full-time study is between AU$4,738 to AU$17,399.
In addition to your tuition fees, you will be expected to pay for additional expenses including:

If you are offered a Commonwealth supported place, your tuition fees are subsidised by the Australian Government.
Your share of the fee (student contribution) is set on an annual basis by the government and is determined by the discipline areas (bands) of your individual enrolled courses, not the overall program.

On 1 January 2022, the Government implemented the Student Learning Entitlement (SLE).
The Australian Government provides financial assistance via the HECS-HELP loan scheme, which allows eligible students (such as Australian citizens or holders of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa) to defer payment of up to the full amount of their student contribution.
You may be eligible to apply to defer payment of the Student services and amenities fee (SSAF) through the SA-HELP loan scheme. If you use SA-HELP, the amount will be added to your accumulated HELP debt.
If your FEE-HELP and/or SA-HELP loan application is successful, the Australian Government will pay RMIT, on your behalf, up to 100% of your fees. This amount will become part of your accumulated HELP debt.
You only start repaying your accumulated HELP debt to the Australian Government once you earn above the minimum income threshold for repayment, which is set each year by the Australian Government (this also applies if you are still studying). The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will calculate your compulsory repayment for the year and include this on your income tax notice.
